Lighten Up!

Alice was really athletic, so it's no surprise that she worked with many coaches in her time. Coach Paul from ULV just wrote in, offering a further glimpse into Alice's life, and how folks are responding in the aftermath of her burial.

"I regret that I will be unable to attend the service as I will be between classes and meetings. While these seem minor to me at this time, other people are counting on me to be at these as well. I would like to think that Alice would understand.

I remember Alice fondly as someone who did not take life too seriously, and always had us laughing about something. I can imagine her in heaven now, going, "Hey! Lighten up! I'm in a better place you can only imagine, and I can't wait for you to join me!" And this should inspire us to lead our lives so that we CAN join her when we pass on from this world. I think the only time I ever saw her down is when she felt she let others down. I know she struggled at times in the classroom, and yet regarded it, not so much as a failure on her part, but as a disappointment to others who had so much faith in her. Then she would work even harder to get the job done.

I know Alice felt bad that some of us at ULV had written letters for her to get into graduate school here a couple of years ago, but she changed her mind at the last minute. However, we know that she was seeking the best program to meet her needs and to help her move on to other things. If I recall correctly, she wanted to look for better opportunities in teaching, and with her energy and enthusiasm, should have been a joy to watch in the classroom. I have not heard from her in a few years, but hope that she found the opportunities she was looking for.

I spoke with Coach Wendy, and it is my understanding that there will be a moment of silence before the Women's Soccer home game today at 4pm. Although Men's Soccer Coach Gonzalez came after Alice's time at ULV, I made him aware of the contributions the Chahinian family made to improve the soccer situation at ULV. In recognition of this and of Alice, Coach Gonzalez is also planning on a moment of silence in Alice's memory before the men's home match on Saturday evening at 7pm.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

Respectfully,
Paul
