On Saturday night there were icicles hanging outside the bedroom window, illuminated by moonlight. I couldn't see the moon, though, it must have been shining from over the roof.
Those icicles were pristinely lit -- silvery, twisted jewels twinkling goodnight to us. The night outside was crisp -- well, because it was frozen. We're in the middle of winter and I'm not in Southern California anymore. So all of it except the frozen part made me think of Alice.
She has taught me how to take in nature's beauty when it's present. Because it's fleeting, like so many things in life.
